Example of a Non-Standard Tank Cleaning Procedure

This Procedure has been issued providing guidance for a Non-Standard Tank Cleaning Operation and can be used also in case a cargo tank to be cleaned after a New Chemical Cargo (new to the company) not listed or available in Miracle.

This procedure shall NOT be used for similar or subsequent tank cleaning operations. A permanent procedure might be issued in such case accordingly.

Below is an example of a Non Standard Cleaning Procedure:

Example of a Non Standard Cleaning Procedure

SPECIFIC CLEANING PROCEDURE AFTER PREVIOUS CARGO LUBOIL BEFORE LOADING SODIUM CHLORATE SOLUTION Done
First cleaning step (pre-cleaning)
Each tank to be butterworthed for 1,5 hours (4 tanks simultaneously) with
hot seawater (Temperature = 70 to 80°C).
During cleaning following points to be observed:
Both sides of the respective manifold lines to be flushed
3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure ( 3-5 bar)
The drop lines to be cleaned 3 to 5 times by recirculation under sufficient
pressure (3-5 bar).
The stripping lines to be flushed 3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure
(3-5 bar).
All dead ends, drains and low points in the line systems to be flushed 3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure (3-5 bar).
Each Side of the manifold collecting line/main line (if in use) to be flushed
3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure (3-5 bar)
In order to clean the valves seats and to build up the required pressure, all valves in the line system including manifold collecting line/main line to be moved 3 to 5 times during cleaning.
Additional superstrip lines and vapour lock pipes (if installed) to be flushed
3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure (3-5 bar).
Second step (recirculation cleaning)
After the a.m. pre-cleaning 10m³ of fresh water/sea water and 2 pails
of the CTC-Cleaner-VLC (40ltr) to be filled into one of the tanks to
be cleaned or a service tank (see attached description of above cleaner).
Tanks and lines to be washed with the solution by recirculation
(to guarantee the proper cleaning of the complete line system the connection
to the butterworth system to be carried out at the manifold collecting line /
main line).
The cleaning temperature during the recirculation to be 60-70°C
During the recirculation cleaning following points to be observed:
Both sides of the respective manifold lines to be flushed
3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure ( 3-5 bar).
The drop lines to be cleaned 3 to 5 times by recirculation under sufficient
pressure (3-5 bar).
The stripping lines to be flushed 3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure
(3-5 bar).
All dead ends, drains and low points in the line systems to be flushed
3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure (3-5bar).
Each Side of the manifold collecting line/main line to be flushed 3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure (3-5 bar).
In order to clean the valves seats all valves in the line system including manifold collecting line/main line to be moved 3 to 5 times during flushing.
Additional superstrip lines and vapour lock pipes if installed to be flushed
3 to 5 times under sufficient pressure (3-5 bar).
Pump cofferdams (Framo) to be flushed with a solution of the CTC-Cleaner- VLC and purged.
During a.m. cleaning the vapour lines (vent stacks) and vapour return lines (if applicable) to be flushed and steamed.

The cleaning solution (10m³) to be renewed after cleaning of 2-4 tanks.

Third step (fresh water rinse)
All tanks and lines to be flushed for 30 minutes with hot fresh water.
Fourth step (steaming)
All tanks and lines to be steamed for 1 hour.
Final step: Check of cleaning result
After a.m. cleaning procedure the line system to be dried by blowing with compressed air.
All connections (flanges) in the line system and critical points (dead ends) to be opened and checked for cleanliness.
After ejecting, mopping and drying the cleanliness of the tanks to be verified by a wall wash with Methanol (hydrocarbon test)
