Tank material

General

MIRACLE Tank cleaning database indicates the coating compatibility for major suppliers and their coating systems. Select the Coating button coating to display or see the coating section in the cargo pages of the MIRACLE book. The database allows also to view the details of the limitations and remarks.

Resistance

The resistance values in the coating compatibility table are R = Resistant N = Not resistant NT = Not tested.
Most important criteria for the tank material is its resistance against the cargoes.
Stainless steel is resistant against most cargoes except many acids or cargoes that contain these acids as impurities.
The less costly Epoxy and Zinc coatings have a significantly reduced resistance spread, which is often acceptable for the intended trade pattern.

Retention of cargo

Tank cleaning executed correctly results in a clean surface of the tank. In case of stainless steel there is a low risk of retention of cargo residues in the tank wall. All coatings tend to retain cargo depending on

  • the chemical characteristics of the cargo
  • the contact time
  • the temperature
  • the nature of the coating and the thickness of the coating
