Ultra High Purity

Ultra High Purity Standard (Intertanko)

Dry, odour-free, free of visual residues
Wall-Wash with methanol conforms to:
• Water miscibility test (ASTM D 1722) passes (Hydrocarbon Test)
• colour PtCo (ASTM D 1209) or APHA 10 or less
• Chlorides less than 2 ppm
• Permanganate time test above 50 min (PTT Test)
• UV spectrum passes
• Non-volatile matter less than 10 ppm (NVM)
• Last cargo by Gas Chromatography or other suitable method less than 2 ppm (GC)

Depending on the purity of the cargo grade the required chloride standard can be much lower (e.g. 0,5 ppm)

If a low chloride standard is required tanks and lines should be finally rinsed/flushed with DI-water

On-board test conducted by ship’s crew

Visual inspection of the tank and wall wash with Methanol to perform above tests except NVM and/or GC (see below)
Master to confirm that the on-board tests were conducted via a tank cleanliness certificate.

Following tests/analysis are not possible on board:
Non-volatile matter (NVM)
Gas Chromatography (GC) or other laboratory test

Charterers/Shippers Surveyor

Visual inspection of tanks and wall wash.
Charterer may accept the cleanliness certificate provided by the Master, but will most likely require an in-tank inspection and wall-wash test.
