UV Test

UV Test

The UV-Test is used to identify certain hydrocarbons and chemicals.
Many hydrocarbons and chemicals have the ability to absorb UV-light when they are exposed to such light. Certain molecular electrons will get excited if exposed to light. This excitation results in absorbance of light which can be measured. Absorbance at a specific wavelength is a measure for the concentration of specific compounds.

Spectrometer Principle

Many hydrocarbons and chemicals have the ability to absorb UV-light when they are exposed to such light.

The spectrometer has 2 different light sources and can be operated in 2 different modes.

Visible Light Mode

Some tests are done by comparing the sample colour with the colour of a standard solution.

A Spectrometer scan in visible mode can be applied for wall wash and cargo samples to determine their purity against pre-set standards and will deliver more reliable results.

UV Light Mode

Certain molecule groups get excited by UV light resulting in absorbance. Usually for Washing Water Analysis

A is the absorption (how much light is “lost”), c is the concentration of the substance in the solution, l is the path length that the light travels through the solution

Absorbance and Concentration
Certain molecular electrons will get excited if exposed to light. This excitation results in absorbance of light which can be measured.
